· Context is king

As a manager, you should make the context clear and be shared among all your subordinates. only in this way, your subordinates can understand what are they doing and what is their goal. It is also a good way to motivate people and gather people together. So, sharing context, make it understandable.

Know yourself, know your team

Different people may have different acting style. It is natural and managers should try to deal with it. For instance, some are extravert, while some others may be introvert. Sometimes people are keeping silent in meetings don’t mean they are not listening or thinking, it is just their style of having meetings.

Listening is the key! Listening with your eyes, while hearing with your ears. Make eye contacts and encourage people to speak more.

How to be authentic and give feedback

There are differences between being authentic and being aggressive. Messages may be hard, but the deliver way might not be. The key is to make the message clear.

When it comes to feedback, usually people give feedback because the receiver asked them to. When delivering feedback, remember to follow the American sandwich model, which is ‘positive-negative-positive’. Because there is always something good, so just say it in the beginning.

· When to bring in the experts

Remember high performance culture deliver high performance. So it is crucial to build and maintain a high performance culture. When talking to people, not just your clients, but also your colleagues and subordinates, try to prepare well and be professional.

Within a high performance environment, the only thing you should do is following the process and bringing the experts.

· How to sack people

Try to do this tough task on Thursday morning, not on Friday, not on the end of a day. And the conversation should be short, clear and straightforward.

I am reading all the reflections but can only comment on a few. Yours was interesting because it had a strong start, but you were way over the number of words.

The words in red below are 55. It is an art to cut it down. You have to be ruthless, which is hard with your own words.

Here is my effort with notes in capitals and blue, and the words I suggest keeping in RED.

My name is Tang Chen,

I'm Tang Chen

currently an MSc student in Cass Business School.

can leave out if event at Cass (and you have mentioned Cass below)

Before I came to Cass, I worked for Procter & Gamble China

Before Cass, I worked for Procter & Gamble China

as sales manager

in sales management

, where I learned a lot about how to communicate, how to sell, and how to do business.

...NEED TO ADD SOMETHING about QUALITIES>

I SUGGEST YOU INCLUDE THIS

As a marathon runner, I am persistent in business too

NOW YOU NEED SOME WORDS about COURAGE AND/OR NETWORKING

Now, in London, I’m making friends with people from all over the world, which cultivate my international vision.

THIS IS FAIRLY OBVIOUS

I think now I’m fully prepared to reenter the career market, and definitely will do better.

LEAVE THIS OUT. WOULD JOSE MOURINHO SAY THIS?

I’ve done load of research about your company and I’m keen to work for you.

AGAIN THIS IS OBVIOUS FROM YOUR OTHER WORDS (AND SPEAKING TO HIM)

GIVE HIM SPECIFIC EVIDENCE RATHER THAN SAY YOU DID RESEARCH EG "I LOVED THE XYZ CAMPAIGN"

Here is my name card. May I also have yours please? I will send you my CV for your further consideration. Thanks very much for your time. See you

VERY POLITE. PROBABLY onLY NEED TO ASK FOR HIS CARD AND IF YOU HAVE ENOUGH WORDS, SOMEONE TO ConTACT IN RECRUITMENT.
